The Work Project: Redefining Workplace Design

Innovative Coworking Space by Lorène Faure and Kenny Kinugasa-Tsui

Introducing The Work Project, an innovative coworking space designed by Lorène Faure and Kenny Kinugasa-Tsui. This award-winning design redefines the concept of a workplace, merging hospitality values with a focus on wellbeing and productivity.

With inspiration drawn from the history of the waterfront district and the dynamic atmosphere of the fishing community, the design of The Work Project is both unique and engaging. Elevated meeting rooms, crafted with curved timber canopies lined with acoustic fabric soffits, create a dramatic and welcoming space. The design concept for these sculptural meeting rooms is a poetic interpretation of the community who once gathered under boating canopies.

Pushing the wellbeing factor to the limit, Bean Buro collaborated with renowned French botanist Patrick Blanc, the pioneer of the original hydroponic vertical garden, to create a plant-filled environment. This collaboration resulted in a workspace that places hospitality and wellbeing values at the highest standards, a truly unprecedented approach to workplace design.

The Work Project is not just a coworking space; it’s a multisensory environment designed to enhance productivity. Every element, from music and scent to technology and furniture, has been carefully curated with the goal of improving the work experience. The workspaces are fully fitted and accessible twenty-four hours a day, catering to teams of any size.

The project, located at Midtown in Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, spans 33,000sqft over four floors. It includes a dedicated social floor with different types of shared workspaces and a vertical garden by Patrick Blanc. The design process started in February 2016 and was completed in September 2016.

The Work Project faced the challenge of crafting a complete environment for the contemporary workforce. The solution was to create a space that delivers hospitality values and standards, similar to the hotel sector. This approach ensures members feel that coming to work is a true pleasure, placing hospitality and wellbeing values at the highest standards.

The Work Project was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
